Officially confirmed

Online analytics test for permanent roles, described by the firm as showing how you approach different types of problems. Interns do not take it and go straight to the recruiting day.

Who actually sits the test

Roland Berger confirms the online test in its own words, and adds a distinction most guides miss: "we'll invite candidates for permanent jobs to take one of our online analytics tests." Interns do not take it. They go straight to the recruiting day.

For permanent roles, the published sequence is: application review within two to four weeks, online analytics test, recruiting day combining a personal fit interview and case interviews, then a final interview with someone from the management team. Junior Consultant candidates are told to prepare a two to three minute self-presentation for the fit interview.

The UK graduate posting names five steps explicitly: screening (reviewed daily, typically within five days), online tests "designed to give us a further understanding of how you approach different types of problems," an assessment day paired with a case study workshop the firm runs for you, final round case interviews, then the offer.

The vendor question, answered carefully

Roland Berger's recruiting privacy notice lists Korn Ferry (DE) GmbH under "provider of analytics and assessment platforms." That is a genuine, firm-published fact, and it is the closest thing to vendor confirmation available.

It is also weaker than what circulates. Roland Berger does not name a product, does not say which country's test Korn Ferry delivers, and publishes nothing about length, question count, sections or scoring. Anyone quoting a specific format is extrapolating.

Two things the privacy notice does confirm are worth knowing: the test happens only with your consent, and results are deleted "at the latest six months after the end of the application process."

No algorithm rejects you

Roland Berger states directly that "there is no automated hiring decision (e.g., automated rejection or the like). All applications are further reviewed by an HR professional and/or hiring manager." Its UK graduate posting puts it more bluntly: "we don't take AI shortcuts with our screening." AI is used to summarise applications and translate documents, not to decide.

What the firm says it is looking for

Roland Berger frames its criteria around three values, and its recruiting team spells out what each means in an interview: empathy, meaning be authentic; excellence, meaning show your skills in both the case and the personal interview; and entrepreneurship, meaning use entrepreneurial thinking to understand the real problem before solving it. On cases, the firm is explicit that "there is not just one correct way to work on a case."

Timing, which is unusually concrete

Roland Berger publishes real dates. For the UK Junior Consultant 2027 intake: applications close Sunday 18 October, with late applications not considered, a case study workshop in the week of 26 October, and first-round interviews on Saturday 7 November in the London office. A covering letter is mandatory. German intern deadlines run 4 September and 16 October 2026.

Elsewhere there is generally no fixed window. The firm advises applying four to six months before your target start date and expects the whole process to take six to eight weeks.
